Meet the Sproule’s

We are a family that comes from humble beginnings on a farming & ranching operation in the small town of beautiful Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada.   Forever coined the “Canadian Cowboys” at races, we stumbled into the off-road racing industry in 2004 and have been respectfully obsessed ever since.

We were put on the back of a motorized vehicle from a very young age.  It was even a very common sight to see a pack of late Sproule’s racing down the driveway on our motorcycles to meet the school bus, or, Dad spinning doughnuts in the snow while we waited, on the rare occasion we were early.  Derrick and Angie were avid racers in the motocross and cross country arenas.  Then, in 2004, Derrick decided to race his motorcycle in the Pahrump BITD off-road race.  That is where the ball (or wheel in this case) started rolling.  Dad claims, that after the race, “It just seemed like the guys in the trucks were having more fun!” ….and that would become the entrance into the off-road racing industry for The Sproule’s….

Dad and Derrick then spectated the Baja 1000 that same year.  After this, they stopped in Southern California at the Scalzo Ranch because of a Class 1 vehicle for sale, that was conveniently named “Bodacious”, for the bull painted on the hood…  Neither Dad or Derrick had ever actually been in an off-road race vehicle.  They tested Bodacious by each driving it up and down the hill one time.  Must have been one helluva hill! …because they decided to buy it.  That was December 2004.

Now, they wanted to go racing! Of course they did… So, politely, Tim Scalzo, Steve Lynch and Mike Monahan (the team that had built and looked after Bodacious for all of its life), agreed to take on the task of showing these new Canadians about the industry.  They would race-ready the car, help them test and meet them at the race.  Febraury 1st, 2005: first race at the Parker 425!  And the following years quickly sped into what became a racing team: Sproule Racing.

The years since it all began, have definitely included many good times, great races and hilarious stories.  But nonetheless, it seems our unfortunate addiction for off-road racing won’t subside any time soon.
